Pingao Planting in the Matata sand dunesÂ
Conservation Week. The focus for our school is the Dunes and Sandspits - our special places Kainga motuhake. Our coastal environment is dynamic, with natural cycles of erosion and accretion. Despite constant changes, it is populated with many fascinating native plants and animals/birds. Sand dunes are important coastal defence systems. Even in large storms or tsunamis they absorb the power of the sea and will rebuild naturally. Without sand dunes much of the Bay of Plenty would be flooded by the sea, so looking after dunes is very important. Friday next week, weather permitting, we'll be Pingao Planting in the Matata sand dunes with Coast Care. More news about this, early next week
